The whole group spent that day resting. Evan later found out that Takashi was looking for him in the town. They all had deserved a break.
At dusk, the door to the cottage was in danger of being thrown open. There were men on the other side trying to get into the cottage!
Takashi, being the light sleeper he was, woke up immediately after the first knock. He woke up the remaining members of his group and they gathered their weapons.
Evan creeped out of the bedroom and peered out the window. He was the youngest, therefore the stealthiest. He gasped at what he had saw.
Scrambling back to the room his friends were, he reported his findings. "The village guards are here."
"How?" Akira asked.
Haku answered," Takashi may have blown his cover while going into town."
Takashi glared at him. "Don't blame this on me!"
Haku shrugged. "It's the only possibility."
"Or Evan, on his day out, may have led the guard here." Takashi suspected, eager to blame someone else.
"Why would I do that? We made a deal! You're keeping your end of it very well, so why would I break my promise?" Evan responded quickly.
Takashi still eyed him suspiciously. "There's a great deal of money on our capture, you know."
"How would I know that?" Evan cried. "I wasn't even in town yesterday!" Evan covered his mouth as soon as those words left his mouth.
Lucky for Evan, the guards were more intensely pounding on the door. Takashi, Akira, and Haku all headed for the side door. Haku, who had immediately befriended Evan, and was very close friends with him, left the door open for his escape.
"God bless him." Evan murmured, a habit he still kept, as he sprinted out the door.
Eventually, Evan caught up with the group. They were at the bramble wall, making camp for the night. Takashi and Akira didn't even look up from the fire as he came close. Haku only managed a half-hearted grin.
"So, what did you say about not going to the village yesterday?" Akira asked.
"Um..." Evan wrecked his brain for an excuse.

Evan breathed a sigh of relief. He had finally turned back to a boy.
As he started to trek back to his new home, a thought occurred to him. "What am I supposed to tell them when I get back?" He saw the thick bramble he had easily hopped across as a werewolf. "If I get back." Evan started to try to find a break in the wall. By then, it was midnight.
Evan didn't get back to the cottage until dawn. As he journeyed back, he conjured an excuse in his mind.
"I went to town to find my sister."
"You what?!" Haku, Akira, and Takashi exclaimed at once. They had forced him in a chair to question him. Takashi even guarded him with his sword to make sure he wouldn't escape again.
"I thought, you know, she might be able to help us."
Akira shook her head. "Remember how terrible she was to you?"
Evan bit his lip. He had made up a bunch of reasons for why he had left his sister's home. They included his sister making his life like hell, his sister's fiancée pitying him, so his sister was even more tough, and Evan pretended his living quarters were in the barn. "Yeah."
"Then what made you go over to that mad woman's house?" Takashi demanded.
"I don't know, okay!" Evan suddenly shouted and stood up. Then, realizing what he had done, fell back into his seat and murmured," I thought she could help."
"So where were you for the rest of the day?" Takashi asked.
"Rila sent the village guards after me to drag me back to the house." Evan miserably said. "I spent the rest of the day running from them."
"You brought it on yourself." Akira said.
"I won't go over to her house ever again." Evan solemnly sweared. He put his hand over his chest and beat it a few times.
"That's more like it." Akira was satisfied.
"There's one more thing." Haku spoke. He turned to Evan. "Did you see a werewolf while you were out?"
Evan took his time in responding. "Not at all, not at all."

Evan eventually fell asleep in the woods. He was so tired from running around that he basically just collapsed on the hard dirt floor. As the sun hit his eyes, Evan slowly began to remember what had happened the previous night.
"I must go back and tell Akira, Takashi, and Haku that I am a werewolf! But they might abandon me..." Evan thought. "Why must life be so hard?"
As Evan's furry paws still remained, he began to worry that his friends would be worried for him. They might have even been looking for him! And that was why he had to stay hidden.
"Evan? Are you here?" A female voice called out from behind him. Terrified, Evan looked back to see Akira dangerously close to finding him. In a flash, Evan had run behind a far away rock. He peered over it to see Akira surprised, then returning to her calls.
"She must have thought it was a rodent of some sort." Evan breathed a sigh of relief.
Throughout the day, Evan almost was discovered by Haku and Akira again. Haku was once so close that Evan had to bite his tongue from howling and chasing him. His tongue started to bleed, which led a trail of blood wherever he went. "Damn it!" He thought.
At dusk, Akira and Haku finally left the woods after giving up their entire day looking for either the werewolf or their friend. Evan followed them until they went inside their cottage. Then, slowly, the fur on Evan's hands disappeared and a boy in stretched out clothes was left standing in the woods.

After a while, Akira, Takashi, and Haku began to trust Evan. He could even say they became friends. But he also worried that they would find out his secret identity.
Day after day, Evan fretted that his uncontrollable transformations would be revealed to his companions. Then one night, as the whole group was sound asleep, Evan woke up and his hands were replaced with furry claws.
Not wanting his new friends to find out, Evan ran out of the cottage and, in his desperate attempt at getting outside, he crashed the door instead of opening it. No one stirred.
Relieved, Evan runs out into the woods and planned to stay there until he turned back.
Unfortunately, his stomach had different plans. 10 minutes after he escapes from the cottage, his stomach starts growling. Evan tries to suppress it with some wild berries, but it kept on reminding him he needed food.
Finally, Evan gave in. He ran back to the cottage and opened the cabinets for some food.
The brute strength of his canine abilities pulled the whole section of the cabinet down. He heard shuffling and a man( he smelled like Takashi) emerged from the bedroom. Evan tries to jump over the fallen cabinets, but his height does not comply.
Takashi stares at Evan for a split second, just before he backs away and crashes into the window, shattering it to pieces and making an escape.
As Evan runs, his thoughts are a bubbling fountain of water. They are scrambled and he cannot think straight until he runs a few laps around the forest.
